Oh hey, 5k!

A few weeks ago my friend, Regan, texted me and asked me to run a 5k with the girls in Macon. The race was called Moonlight Miles (because it started at 9 PM) and it benefitted Bragg Jam.

When I was in Scotland, I managed to go to workout classes a few times a week...so I was in decent shape. When I got home, that changed completely. I attempted to get back in shape literally two weeks before the race...not the brightest idea!

On the day of the race, we did what any athlete would do before a big event...TAN! It was pretty overcast, so I didn't feel like I was getting that much sun...that changed when I turned lobster red before the race. Also, to prep for the race, we put on Regan's 1995 Claire's Glow-in-the-Dark nail polish. I'm pretty sure this is how olympic runners prepare...tanning + nail polish.

Kelsey lately.

I have been really busy with crafting, running and watching the bachelorette, so I have failed to update my blog (haha, such a busy/important life).

1. My brilliant boyf got a big boy job. While working the night shift at a casino and writing a dissertation in rocket science (aka Quantitative Finance), he managed to get the first job he interviewed for. The only word made for a person who accomplishes this is badass.

Who wouldn't employ this brilliant guy?

2. My little brother, Logan, just took his senior pictures. How is that even possible? I can't even believe that the little boy who loved the Land Before Time movies and dinosaurs is old enough to be a senior in high school. I am so proud of him and I can't wait to see all of the wonderful things he is going to do with his life!

 

3. Southern belle + sorority girl does not equal crafty. There is definitely a stereotype about southern belles and sorority girls...apparently we like to craft. Because of this, I have attempted some crafts this summer. Along with the glitter wine glasses, I decided to copy the Charleston Belle's DIY chevron bulletin board. It turned out cute but I hated the whole process: ironing the fabric, tediously lining up the pushpins, deciding what to do with the extra fabric...I, Kelsey Fowler, am not a crafter and I am okay with it.

4. I completed my first 5k. Had a blast this past weekend running my first 5k...expect a blog on that one later.

My little brother Andrew is eleven years old and is obsessed with wearing army gear.

Last night, he had his friend Matthew over and (of course) they were army-crawling around our woods, decked out in camo.

When I woke up this morning, they were still army-crawling in our woods. I was in the living room, cleaning the windows, when I saw both of them running around the yard, crazily flailing their arms. I laughed to myself because they looked so funny running around, acting like they were in war.

What I didn't know, is they were actually at war...with yellow jackets.

The boys had apparently belly-crawled over a yellow jacket nest that was in the ground. The yellow jackets were not only swarming around them, but had gotten in their army gear.

Matthew busted in the house (swarm of yellow jackets in tow), screaming at the top of his lungs! He literally ran around the whole house until I told him to jump in the pool.

The aftermath of the war is still apparent. There are yellow jackets throughout the house and Matthew has some battle wounds: about eight stings (one of which on the eye).  Everyone in the house is paranoid and the smallest gnat is causing a lot of commotion. All is not bad, however...I heard Matthew telling the other boys that the stings didn't really hurt that bad.

Friday, I was swimming in the pool and my Dad said "Kelsey, you need to change your hair style." Now when my dad makes a comment about superficial things like hair, I know to listen. 

I have definitely had my share of hair disasters. I'm talking awful haircuts and some terrible color mishaps. The trend started when I was two years old. My Dad was supposed to be babysitting me, and I slipped off and cut off my pretty blond locks. Needless to say, my Dad was in a lot of trouble! When I was 13, I dyed my hair too dark and we tried to lighten it...it turned ORANGE. This is exactly why I usually play it safe! Below, I will take you through 21 years of my hairdo's (and definitely don'ts!)

So today, my mom and I got our hair chopped off at the wonderful Tease Salon! Like my Dad said, I have really needed a fresher style. Below are the before's and after's:

DIY Glitter Wine Glasses

Since I am not working this summer, I decided to actually try some of the things that I pin on pinterest (recipes, DIY).

My frist project is the DIY Glitter Wine Glass.

What you will need: 

Regular glitter in your color of choice

Modge podge

Wine glasses

Tape (unless you want to freehand)

Paint brush

I purchased the glitter/modge podge at Hobby Lobby and the wine glasses at the Dollar Store. I just used some tape that we had in the house. 

Using newspaper is smart (for the glitter mess)--I used the funnies for some periodic humor (ha). 

Instructions:

Tape each wine glass

The tape is the most annoying part...getting it straight is a pain!

Paint a thin layer of modge podge onto the wine glass (make sure you don't put it on thick, then the glitter gets goopy)

Shake the glitter 

Like Katy Perry...Shake, shake the glitter!

Shake off the excess glitter

Let it dry completely

Paint thin layer of modge podge on top of the glitter

Don't worry if it looks white...it dries clear!

Let it dry completely

Take the tape off

Drink (lots of) wine!

Notice there are only four...one didn't quite make it. I wouldn't recommend chevron zig zags!

If I could do it again, I would put less glitter...you know, go for the understated look. Also, I would buy the small tube of glitter...I probably used only 1/100 of what I bought!

I don't plan on putting these in the dishwasher...I'm sure they will be fine hand-washed.
